Winston-Salem, NC – In an unprecedented
show of skill and strength, 13 riders from Cash Lovell Stables & Riding
Academy competed in the National Academy Championship Finals in
Murfreesboro, TN on Nov. 4 & 5, 2006. Members of the riding
team earned 21 National Championship titles. The team’s instructor,
Mary Marcum Orr, was named the top instructor of the show -- winning
more honors with her riders than any other instructor in the show’s
history.
Ending their competition season, winning riders from across the
country met in Murfreesboro to compete in front of a three-judge
panel of experts for the National Academy Championships. In the
past, riding academies from Kentucky and Illinois have dominated
the show. 2006 marks the first year that a North Carolina riding
academy has shown such strength in this revered national equestrian
event.
Riders of all ages competed in elimination rounds during the grueling
two-day show, which started at dawn and ran late into the night.
In a stunning display of consistent force, every single Cash Lovell
Stables rider who entered the competition was selected to ride
in the Final Grand Championship rounds. Children through adults
competed in different classes, divided by age group. Cash Lovell
Stables’ youngest National Champions, Miss Allie Poovey and
Miss Libby Bowen, are amazingly just 5 years old.
Their instructor, Mary Orr, is the head trainer at Cash Lovell
Stables. Orr received her Master’s Degree in teaching from
William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., where she specialized
in Equestrian Science. She, and her husband Evan, are partners
at Cash Lovell Stables & Riding Academy, where they also are
head instructors.
Since 1940, Cash Lovell Stables & Riding Academy has been
well-known in the Piedmont Triad for its reputation for teaching
safe, structured English riding lessons to all ages.
Cash Lovell riders are no strangers to the winner’s circle. Each year,
they compete in national and international equestrian competitions. But for
a team of riders to so totally dominate a National Competition is truly unprecedented
in the history of the sport.
“I’ve never seen so many talented riders on the same
team,” said Joyce Webster, the manager of the National Academy
Championship Finals Show, which is featured in major equestrian
publications such as The National Horseman. “It’s a
stunning display of force.”
Equally amazing are the rider’s determination to use their
love of riding to help others.
This year, the National Academy Championship Finals will donate
proceeds of $15,000 to St. Jude’s Children’s Research
Hospital.
In addition to their participation in shows, by themselves Cash
Lovell riders have raised and donated more than $40,000 to charitable
causes close to their hearts in recent years. They particularly
like to help US Equine Rescue League (NC Chapter), which nurses
abused horses back to health, and the Riverwood Therapeutic Riding
School, which teaches handicapped children to ride.
The Little Bits group of riders range in age from 3 to adult.
They are enrolled in riding lessons at Cash Lovell Stables & Riding
Academy, located on Darwick Road, four miles from Hanes Mall, in
Winston-Salem.
